The newspaper problem, summed up in ten tidy words.

Bob Ford is a Philadelphia sportswriter, a grumpy, curmudgeonly sort, my kinda guy in other words. He’s one of the regular participants in a second-page feature in the Philadelphia Inquirer called You Talkin’ to Me?, in which three writers exchange comments, generally humerous, on one of the day’s stories.

In this morning’s installment, after putative host of the back-and-forth John “Gonzo” Gonzales uses the old canard “If it’s in the newspaper, it must be true,” Ford comes back with the answer which inspired the headline above:

“No, if it’s in the newspaper, it was true yesterday.”
