Seven random thoughts.

1. The Obama favorable rating will drop 20 points or more when they have to return those two perfect little girls to Central Casting.

2. We will discover early on, I’d guess not later than this summer and likely sooner, that Michelle Obama does not suffer fools gladly. I expect this to happen with a member of the press and look forward to it. Have you caught all the whining and bitching from the White House Press Corps the last day or two over…well, absolutely nothing? These people are an ongoing embarrassment.

3. The Republican party will continue to disintegrate. The Election leaves the most right wing and out-of-touch office-holders in place. Since it is the Primary Directive of every elected official to Get Re-Elected, those benighted souls will either have to play even more to the basest base any major political party in the country ever had in order to keep hatred alive or choose to not run again. The people who damaged America more than we yet understand are actually in the process of casting themselves into the wilderness.

4. The Wingnut Hissy Fits are resuming. The first, quickly abandoned effort was latching onto the fumble during the taking of the Presidential Oath to argue that Barack Obama  is not officially the president. Unfortunately for them, it was the Chief Justice who screwed it up. Even more to the point, the oath taking is ceremonial; Obama became president at noon regardless. One of the signs of the times is that the president and inept jurist repeated the oath correctly in private later because a wingnut law suit was almost inevitable. Still might be, comes to that. None of this will stop the rancid and rabid from making this an Ultimate Truth in their fantasy world going forward.

5. More egregious was Rush Limbaugh’s angry “I want him to Fail” cry for help and then there was this, which is mind-bogglingly unbelievable (thanks to the ineffable TBogg for the link).

6. Along those same lines, the Rev. Joseph Lowry’s use of this rhyme, a familiar one to attendees of black churches, in his Benediction…

We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right

…has been revealed as evidence that our new president hates white people.

7. President Obama offered this olive branch to America’s enemies in his Inaugural Speech

…know that you are on the wrong side of history; but…we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

Another sign of the times is that, even though it would be just as appropriate, making the same offer to the wingnuts would be a waste of time. Clenched fists and mindless anger are all they got.

  1. “Rancid and rabid”? Nice! I like it. Use it again. Maybe that should be what you always call those outrageous and screwy people. Everyone needs to have a trademark phrase.

As far as #’s 1 and 2, Michelle Obama has already started to demonstrate that she won’t be holding back. Apparently as per last night’s TeeVee, she is mightily pissed at the owner of the TY company (Beanie Babies fame) because of their new dolls obviously named and designed after her two children. I get the feeling from watching her with her husband, even correcting him gently, IN PUBLIC, that she is NOT someone I would ever want to have angry at me.

  2. Amazing what the rightwingnuts will stoop to, is it not? It was obvious during the oath that ROBERTS was nervous, not Obama. Obama started to say the oath as written (and he had obviously practiced and Roberts had obvious NOT), but decided to follow the lead of our Chief Justice. But they’ve tried to “prove” Obama was not a natural born citizen, that his birth certificate is a fake, that with the oath not correctly taken he’s not prez– what utter balderdash! Whiney-butts should shut up and join in.
