GOP battleplan.

It is fairly obvious that the GOP strategy, in addition to avoiding every and all issues, will be to try and cast the whole election as a David v. Goliath battle, with them, in the person of the Calendar Girl, as the former and the Media as the big, ugly guy.

it’s ludicrous, of course, but it might work, given the inattention of the public. It will certainly do so if they intimidate the media right from the start.

Joe Klein, of all people, tells his compatriots they’d better show some balls and sums up the issues that the proper concern of all Americans and decidedly not sexist:

There is a tendency in the media to kick ourselves, cringe and withdraw, when we are criticized. But I hope my colleagues stand strong in this case: it is important for the public to know that Palin raised taxes as governor, supported the Bridge to Nowhere before she opposed it, pursued pork-barrel projects as mayor, tried to ban books at the local library and thinks the war in Iraq is “a task from God.” The attempts by the McCain campaign to bully us into not reporting such things are not only stupidly aggressive, but unprofessional in the extreme.

It is the book banning story that disturbs me most, followed closely the fact that she openly and knowingly lied in her very first speech to the American people (about the “bridge to nowhere” stuff).

She will raised to Sainthood by the convention attendees. We shall see how America reacts. In what might be a “tell,” when Chris Matthews did two walk-throughs in the crowd outside the building (some delegates, some locals), every woman but one said something along the lines of “I’m delighted there is a woman on the ticket but not this woman.”
